The Notre Dame Theatre Department seeks to foster in students a lifetime appreciation for theatre and the arts. Offering three class levels, the program examines the role of theatre in a historical and social context in cultures around the world from its origins to the present day.  As a part of their exploration of dramatic theory, the students read a variety of playwrights and study numerous artistic movements.

Beyond theory, students also study the real-world aspects of theatre making including acting, design and directing.  Combining in-class study with practical experience with the Department’s fall and spring productions, as well as the winter student-directed Evening of Scenes, the Notre Dame Theatre Department seeks to cultivate the next generation of American theatre-goers.
